How to Stretch Text in Canva

You cannot stretch a text box in Canva by dragging the left or right handles. That only makes the text box bigger without changing the shape of the letters. I wanted the letters themselves to stretch like a rubber band, and here is how I do it.

Why simple resizing will not Stretch Text in Canva

Dragging the sides of a text box only expands the container. It does not stretch the letters.

This is why a different approach is needed to get true stretched letters.

Letter-spacing option for Stretch Text in Canva

There is a simpler alternative that gives a similar effect. Select your text, open Spacing, and increase Letter spacing.

This does not stretch each letter. It only increases the gaps between letters, which makes the text take up more space.

Export method to Stretch Text in Canva

This method converts the text into an image so you can stretch it.

Prepare the PNG

Go to Share, then Download.

Set the file type to PNG.

Enable Transparent background and click Download.

Upload the downloaded PNG back into Canva.

Stretch the image

Use a fresh page if you want a clean setup, and remove the original text.

Place the PNG on the page and size it as needed.

Double click the PNG to enter the editor, hover over one of the four corner points, hold Shift, and click that point to stretch the image.

Repeat for the other side if needed. You do not have to hold Shift on the second adjustment.

Set it to your maximum stretch, then click Done.

You will see a clear difference between the original text and the stretched image version. The stretched one distorts each letter, while the original remains uniform.

This is the effect I wanted when I needed truly stretched letters.

Letter spacing is quick but not true stretching. Converting the text to a PNG with a transparent background lets you stretch each letter.
