How to Create a Glitch Text Effect in Canva

I’m going to show you how to create a really cool glitch text effect in Canva. I recommend starting with a blank new template. I’m using a black background because the text I’m going to insert will be white.
If you want a softer look for other projects, try a subtle faded text effect in Canva.
Create a Glitch Text Effect in Canva
Setup
Go to Text and insert a heading. Type the word you want to glitch, I’m using SUBSCRIBE. I’m changing the font to cck sparton and making it bigger.

Convert to Image
Go to Share, choose Download, set File type to PNG, and enable Transparent background. Click Download. We’re converting this regular text into an image because an image element is easier to customize than a text layer.

Delete the original text. Upload the PNG you just exported, then drag and drop it onto the canvas. Center it on the page.

For a more nature-inspired style on other designs, you can experiment with a grass text effect.
Apply Effects
Select the image and click Edit. Open the Apps section and install the 3p app. You’ll see multiple effects like Split, Splice, Solarize, and RGB Shift.

Start with something subtle. I like a light RGB Shift to introduce color offset without overpowering the text. Click Save to apply.

Refine the Glitch
Go back and add another effect for slicing the text. Choose Slice and reduce the number of slices so the word stays readable. Click Save again to lock in the result.

If you need clean alignment for body text in other layouts, check this approach to a justified text effect.
Final Export
When you’re happy with the glitch, export your design. Use PNG for most uses, or keep the background transparent if you plan to stack this over other graphics. You’ll get a text image that looks nicely glitchy and still clear.

Final Thoughts
Start with a bold word in white on black, convert it to a transparent PNG, and reimport it as an image. Use the 3p app to layer a light RGB Shift and a restrained Slice for a readable but striking glitch. Save the effect and export for a clean, reusable graphic.
