How to Make a Clickable Button in Canva

This is a Canva presentation and right away this button is not clickable. You can click on it, but it won't lead to anything because it has no link. I’ll show you how to make a button in Canva clickable so viewers can open a different page or a different document.

I’m going to make this element clickable. It’s already grouped, but if you have a shape, an icon, and text, I recommend selecting all of them and grouping them. Grouping ensures every single part of that button area becomes clickable.

Group the elements

Select the shape, icon, and text that form your button.
Group them to keep everything together so the entire area responds to a click.

If you’re layering shapes or text on top of photos, you might also want a subtle overlay to make your button text pop; see this transparent overlay tutorial.

Click the grouped button element.
Right-click and choose Link, or press Control+K.
In the Link panel, search for a Canva document to link internally, or paste an external URL such as a Wikipedia page, then click Done.

Remove the underline on text

If your button text shows an underline you don’t want, click the text.
Click the underline icon to remove it.

Present or publish

Present the document again, or publish the design as a website.
Update the design if needed, then test the button.
You’ll see the cursor change over the button, and clicking it will open the page you linked.

Final thoughts

Group all elements of your button first so the entire area is clickable. Add your link with Control+K, clean up the text underline if needed, and then present or publish to test it. With that, your Canva button will open the exact page or document you want.
