How to Blur Text in Canva

Canva doesn't allow you to blur a text box, but it does allow you to blur an image. The workaround is to convert your text into an image, then apply the blur.
I will show you exactly how I do this. The goal is to keep the text readable while still blurred.
Basics of Blur Text in Canva
I start with a text box and isolate it from the background. The background has to be empty.

I duplicate the page, remove the background on the duplicate, and leave only the text on a transparent background. That part is important.

If you want bold typographic layers in the same project, see how to add background text for more ideas.

Make sure there is only one element on the page, the text, with an empty background.
Duplicate your page so you can edit the copy without touching the original.
Delete the background on the duplicated page so it is just the text on a blank canvas.

This is your text, but now it is an image.
Remove the original text layer and resize the image as needed.

Tune blur in Blur Text in Canva
Click the image and click Edit.

Open FX and choose Blur.

Enable Whole image.
Increase the intensity until the text looks blurred.

I usually avoid 100 percent intensity. Make it good enough so the text is still readable but clearly blurred.
Click Back to confirm.

To add more style around your blurred type later, you can add a border to a text box in Canva.

By converting the text to an image, you unlock Canva's blur control. Export a transparent PNG of the isolated text, re-import it, and apply Blur with an intensity that fits your design.
