How to Make Video Longer in Canva
I'm going to show you how you can extend or make a video clip longer in Canva. I’ll be clear from the beginning that there is no way you can extend a video using Canva: if the clip is 10 seconds long, then it’s going to be 10 seconds long and you cannot make it any longer, except maybe for one simple technique.

Let’s say you have a video clip that is maybe 12 seconds. At some point I reduced it to 5 seconds, and if I want to extend it back, I can. Click and drag the edge of the clip to get the video back to its original length. That is probably not what you meant by extending a video or making the video longer.
Make Video Longer in Canva: Slow Motion Method
One method to make a video appear a bit longer is adding a slow motion effect. If a video was 10 seconds and you slow the speed to 50 percent, it becomes about 20 seconds.
Step-by-step:
- Click the video.
- Click the Playback option.
- Adjust the video speed to the level you want, for example 50 percent to double the duration.
You can see the video is now longer than the original clip. It used to be 10 seconds and now it is 20 seconds.
Keep in mind it will make the motion a bit jittery because the frame rate is reduced, so you get a less than smooth experience. If that is okay, you can use this technique.
Make Video Longer in Canva: AI-Based Extension
Another method is using AI, but that is not available in Canva. You can use a third-party tool like Runway ML to extend a video and generate the rest based on what is in the video. It will introduce something new that wasn’t there, but it is based on the available content in the clip.
This is not a free tool - you have to pay for it, maybe there is some sort of free trial. I personally never tried it; I only watched people doing it. After that, you can download the video and then upload it to Canva for further editing.

You cannot truly extend the recorded length of a clip inside Canva. You can slow the speed to make it play longer, understanding it may look less smooth, or you can use an external AI tool to generate extra footage and bring it back into Canva. That’s how you can make a video longer in Canva.
